Applying Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit

A teacher develops and applies foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students. Achievement of this competency is demonstrated by indicators such as: supporting the learning experiences of all students by using resources that accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength and diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit.

A fellow education student and I had the opportunity to teach an English Language Learners class on the history of the Métis and Mi'Kmaq people of Canada. Through the preparation and presentation of this class, we were able to support the learning experiences of the students on the strength and diversity of the Métis and Mi'Kmaq people of Canada. We were also able to develop a better understanding of our own Canadian heritage.
